Fitness in 100 words:

“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practise and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, c&j and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: Pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.”

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program that not only targets the ten main principles of fitness (Agility, Accuracy, Balance, Co-ordination, Cardio Vascular/Respiratory endurance, Flexibility, Power, Strength, Speed and Stamina), but also develops your mental strength. The workouts are fun, but are tough enough to make you push yourself , Physically and mentally. This is a good thing, because when you want to give up, you find the strength to keep going! This enables you to get the most out of what you do- not just in training, but in life also.

Whether you are an elite athlete, in the military or work a 9-5 job, CrossFit gives you the strength and determination to tackle life head-on!

CrossFit is based on three main areas: Gymansitcs, Olympic Lifting and Metabolic Conditioning (cardio). The workouts can include one, two or all three of these areas. Based on the amount of movements and exercises within these areas, there are literally hundreds of different workouts to forge you into a CrossFit athlete.

CrossFit wods (workout of the day) are based on functional movement that is constantly varied and performed at high intensity. Functional movement meaning the movements were not man-made, which means that the exercises are based around how our bodies are designed to move. This is the main reason we don’t use machines. (We become the machine!) The workouts are constantly varied, meaning, each time you step into the gym you will be doing something different. This ultimately keeps your mind and body guessing, which in turn, makes you ready for anything that life can throw at you. Finally, the wods are performed at high intensity, which means you are training to the best of your ability. I truly believe that what you get out of something is determined by how much you put into it. Give it your all and you will be rewarded accordingly.

CrossFit is tough work, but if you commit and put the effort in, it will reward you. You will do things you never though you would or could ever do. It is something that will cause you to fail, but get back up and try again. It will develop a determination that drives you to try for things without fear of failure and thrive from challenges. It will increase your Work Capacity across Broad Time and Modal Domains, which means you will be able to perform physical tasks much more efficiently. (General Physical Preparedness). CrossFit is a system that can be modified in movement or intensity, or scaled in reps or weight to suit an individual’s needs. As such, this makes the wods completely achievable by all who participate, yet will push you to be your best each and every time.
